What’s in a name

happy cows

As a marketing person, I thought I was immune to all the tips and tricks marketers use to draw you in. I guess not.

I was shopping at my favorite food store, Market Basket, and I was very excited to see that they now carry organic milk. Market Basket is known for its low prices and high quality. Now Market Basket is a far cry from Whole Foods, where you expect almost everything to be organic. I was even happier to see that the milk was called, “Amish Country Farms Organic Milk.” I had visions of Amish farmers riding around in their horse carriages, raising happy cows. Well, it turns out this milk was produced in Wilton, Connecticut, which is not exactly Amish country. I then realized it was just a name. I still like to think that the cows were happy though, especially since this quote was on the milk container, “Our cows have access to open pastures, clean water and fresh air.”

How about you, have you been drawn into something just because of its name?
