The lazy days of summer are upon us. I got to thinking about the summer and how I love it.
Here’s why I love summer:
1. Many hours of daylight.
I am a morning person and I love to exercise in the morning. That being said, it sure is hard to get up at 4:30 am in the winter. It’s dark and it’s cold and it feels like the middle of the night. In the summer, it’s getting light out at 4:30 am so it is much easier to get up.
I find that I have more energy in the afternoon as well.
2. I’m more in tune with my body.
I am a big believer in intuition. Our ‘gut’ tells us things, we don’t always listen though. Since I feel more relaxed, I am better able to be still and listen to my body. I am evolving from a Ballet/Barre routine to an all yoga routine. Yoga and stretching is just what my body needs right now. We are out kayaking twice a week and we paddle for almost 3 hours at a time; that is plenty of an upper body workout.
3. It’s easier to eat healthy.
There are so many yummy fruits in season, it’s hard to decide which ones to eat each day. Having all this fruit goes a long way to curbing my sweet tooth. On a side note, there are no Peep holidays in the summer, so it is easier for me to resist sweets.Β Although the siren call of the Dairy Queen Blizzard is hard to resist.
4. Kayaking.
What can I say? I love kayaking more than anything. I can be having the most stressful day, but once I’m out on the water, all of that disappears. I always sleep wonderfully after being outside all day.
5. Chipmunks!
It’s so much fun to come downstairs every day and have chipmunks sitting on our front and back steps, waiting for their breakfasts. They love blueberries! I think because they are sweet and a perfect size for them.
6. Dairy Queen Blizzards.
I love Dairy Queen Blizzards even more than Peeps. We had to change our routine this year though, since our favorite Dairy Queen has relocated. Thanks to a tip from the owner of our favorite deli, we now enjoy yummy frozen yogurt from the local Mobile station. I’m partial to the salted caramel. And, to make things even better, there are lots of toppings to choose from. We can have anything from M&Ms, to heath bar, to sprinkles.
So what are some of your favorite summer things?

You know, my one cat is constantly bringing this professor dead chipmunks in the summer! It’s rotten, I tell you.

Hey Professor,
Oh dear, that doesn’t sound too pleasant. Although knowing cats, they think they are showing their affection for you by bringing you a gift. π

More time with my children, family holiday, being a little lazy .. these are some of my favourite summer things. But I prefer autumn; there is something wonderful about going for a long walk when it’s getting a bit colder and enjoying the change in the trees.

Hi Lundygirl,
I’m with you on loving Autumn. Fall in New England is my favorite time of year. I love the bright red maple trees and the crisp cool air.

Nancy, I am a baseball nut; so, summer is easily my favorite season. And, thinking about it, most of my positive childhood memories are from the summer months, when I would practically live outside with friends – often playing baseball – from morning until late evening (i.e., until the sun went down). I also enjoy fall in New England. The only downside to fall is that it ushers in winter. Maybe my wife and I will be snowbirds once we retire.
I hope all is well.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for sharing your summer memories. I, too, fondly remember playing outside all day long. For me, it was marathon kick ball games. I lived in a great neighborhood, with lots of other kids around.
