I am getting better at this mindfulness thing. Between my yoga, meditation and prayer, I am able to slow down sometimes. I still have a ways to go though.
Sundays are my day of rest. I like to sleep late and just relax. Although for me, sleeping late means getting up at 6 am instead of 4 am. This past Sunday, we decided to go to the 11 am formal church service. This is a lovely service, with organ music and the choir. It is quite uplifting. We planned to go out for brunch afterwards.
As soon as I woke up, I started worrying. Will I have time to do my exercise? When will I be able to shovel Mom’s driveway? Will the brunch place be crowded?
Calmness overtook me as soon as I was at church. The calmness stayed with me at the brunch place. Who would have thought there would be a little French bistro in our suburban town. White tablecloths and real silverware awaited us. I couldn’t help but think of the expression, “French women don’t get fat.” Why? Because they savour their food, they don’t rush and they don’t eat diet cr*p.
I enjoyed a fresh cup of coffee with real cream. I enjoyed a real egg omelet. (I usually order an egg white omelet cooked dry.) I sipped water between every bite. I pretended I was sitting in a street café in Paris.
I left the restaurant feeling totally relaxed and calm. I love this reminder to slow down.
What does it take for you to slow down and enjoy the day?
