I had the good fortune to attend two awesome conferences last week. On Saturday, it was off to WordCamp Providence. For those of you unfamililar with WordCamps, they’re WordPress community events featuring talks about all things WordPress. Plus, you get a WordCamp t-shirt!
From August 19 – 22, I was at Hubspot’s Inbound Marketing Conference at the Hynes Auditorium in Boston.
I learned so much at both events and I’m dying to share it with you all, but I’m feeling overwhelmed right now. It will take me a little while to sort things out, so in the meantime, I thought I would entertain you with some personal stuff. This is all related to marketing however since to be an effective marketer, you have to be authentic and personal.
So, I googled, “blog post ideas.” This “getting to know you” type of post struck my eye, so here goes. These are in no particular order.
The 10 things you probably didn’t know about me:
1. Favorite animal: Chipmunk.
We have several living near our house and we feed them daily. Not only do we feed them, but we name them. This year’s crew are named: Lisa Jane, Baby and Kennie.
2. Favorite book type: Mysteries.
As much as I love technology and fitness, my favorite genre is mysteries.
3. Favorite food: Strawberries and milk chocolate eggs. (In addition to Peeps.)
It’s kind of yin and yang when it comes to my favorite foods. I love eating healthy, but I also have a wicked sweet tooth.
I don’t care for dark chocolate, even though it’s supposed to be so healthy for you. Give me milk chocolate any day!
4. Favorite exercise: Swimming.
This is a very tough question to answer since I love to workout. I chose swimming because the only time I get to swim is when I’m on vacation. I always associate swimming with being relaxed and having fun.
5. Favorite class when in school: English.
Even though I am an analytical person, I love to read and I love to write. It’s one of my escapes.
I think this is why I love writing so much since I can easily express myself.
6. Favorite color: Blue.
I love all shades of blue. My personal favorite this year has been turquoise. Even my exercise shoes are turquoise!
7. Favorite city: Charleston, South Carolina.
I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit that I haven’t traveled much overseas although I hope to do more of that in the future. I love Charleston because it’s filled with history, it’s a beautiful city and the people are so gracious. I’ve spent many happy times there on vacation.
8. Favorite time of day: 4 a.m.
This is easy! I just love the early morning hours. It’s quiet and a wonderful time for quiet reflection.
9. Favorite music: Classical.
Vivaldi and Beethoven are my favorites. Yes, they are opposites, but they can really fit my mood.
10. Place I’d most like to visit: Paris.
I had 10 years of French back in grammar school/high school. I’d love to put it to good use and visit Paris.  Although my husband is a little nervous about relying on me to get directions, especially since I have no sense of direction.
So what about you? What are some things that others may not know about you?

I visited Paris last year – 3 hours at the airport. Does that count?

Only if you spoke French, while stuck at the airport! 🙂

I like your favorite places to visit and look forward to visiting them with you in the future. You will, however, have to be my official translator when in Paris. I’m also glad that I have a chipmunk named after me! 🙂

Hi Ken,
When we do go to Paris, I will not be translating things like, “where is the nearest McDonalds?” Or, “where is the nearest donut shop?”

Rest assured. I will learn the French needed to get directions to the nearest donut shop and / or fast food place. I guess I should give some French food a try too.

My dear Ken,
I will learn the ‘secret’ words for “don’t pay attention to my dear husband, he doesn’t know what he’s saying.” 🙂

You’ve got to love chipmunks! I feed a small family of them every morning — the second my back door opens first thing in the morning the little guys (and gals) come running — they sure love peanuts in the shell!

Hey David,
Chipmunks also love grapes, almonds, cashews and dried fruit. Believe it or not, we peel the grapes for the younger chipmunks since otherwise they just leave the grapeskins sitting on the steps.
The absolute favorite food of our chipmunks is dried cranberries! They literally run around in circles with glee when we put those out.
Nancy
P.S. Yes, I do need to get more of a life besides feeding chipmunks. 🙂

Thanks for the feeding tips. Besides, I like chipmunks more than many of the people I know!

Strawberries and milk chocolate eggs….now that sounds rather good! But what are “peeps”? Is this another type of chocolate?

Oh my gosh Steven, you have never heard of Peeps? They are marshmallow candies, just sold in the U.S. and Canada. They come in various shapes like chicks (for Easter). These were the original Peeps.
To see how much I love Peeps, you might enjoy reading my blog post:
Ode to Peeps.

Thanks Nancy…..I can see a potential import business opportunity here!! We don’t have them in Australia, so I will keep an eye out for them next time I’m over in the US. Cheers, Steve

Hey dear friend Ralph,
Yes, I think my ‘dear’ husband knows all these things about me, since he has to live with me day and day out! He’s a confirmed night owl, so it seems that I’m getting up about the time he is going to bed. 🙂

In France I am with you on the French cuisine and of course the wine, but I personally would avoid Paris prefering places like Caen, Rouen or the Loire Valley, La Rochelle and Carcassonne. Why not extend you visit to Europe and call in; the area around Portsmouth UK is full of history from Roman times to Jane Austen and the modern day. Capital cities rarely come up to the romantic reputations they are given, in my experience.

Hi Richard,
Awesome – thanks so much for the tips! I just love history so Portsmouth UK sounds right up my alley. Ah, there is so much to see and do over in Europe, I think I will have to return many, many times. 🙂

The closest Marianne and I have come to Charleston is Myrtle Beach. It was beautiful there too. My favorite color is also blue, probably because I can see blue. I’m red/green color blind. And, my favorite time is also 4:00 a.m. It’s my prayer time.
Blessings,
Steve
P.S. You and Ken might also consider visiting Cape Town, South Africa. It’s the most beautiful city I’ve evr seen.

Hi Steve,
The beaches in South Carolina are just beautiful. Even though I’m not really a beach person, I just love walking the beach at sunrise.
Thanks for the tip about Cape Town. There are so many places in this world that I would love to see.
I hope you have a blessed week.
