Some reflections on an early morning walk

As most of you know, I am a morning person. There is nothing I love better than to get up early and do my exercise before the my day gets started. Spring has finally arrived here in New England.  I just love the warmer weather and brighter days.

I have been taking early morning walks. It is still dark when I go out, but is the moon and stars are shining.  It is also very quiet, with no traffic.

dark morning

1. It is dark.

Yep, it’s that dark outside. But I can see the stars! What a cool sight.

bright jacket

2. Safety always comes first.

I have this neat fluorescent jacket that is so bright, I think it can be seen from outer space. I must admit, I am usually not smiling as much as this model is though.

music

3. Music!

It sure helps to have happy music to push me to walk faster. It doesn’t hurt that Coach Sean O’Malley is encouraging me too.

scary skunk

4.  Oh the sights I see!

Even though I am half-asleep, I couldn’t help but notice this little creature in front of me.  Did you know that skunks don’t walk, they waddle?  And, very slowly at that.  At first, I thought I could just quickly walk by this guy, but then I realized that probably wasn’t a good idea.  It is never a good idea to startle a skunk!

time flies

5. Time flies.

I am still half asleep when I go out for these early morning walks. I am slooooowly waking up by the time my walk is over. Half the time, I look back and think to myself, “Did I really just walk 5 miles? I don’t remember!” 🙂

endorphins

6. And last, but not least, those endorphins!

There is nothing like a brisk walk in the early morning to help energize you me. I love it.
