As most of you know, my dear cousin Kathryn passed away a few weeks ago. When something like this happens, you want to help, but sometimes you don’t know how. I found that by just being there for her husband and her sons was a comfort to them. I called her husband every day to check in. I went over to their house to help him sort through her clothes.
We drove to their vacation home in Rhode Island on Sunday. We planned to do some cleaning out, as well as have a little outing on the beach. well, when we arrived at the house there was water gushing everywhere! A pipe had frozen and split. The entire first floor and basement were submerged in water. Luckily a plumber and a water restoration crew came out right away. The bad news is that the water damage is so extensive, the entire first floor has to be gutted. This is so not what Kathryn’s husband needed right now!
I am so, so, glad that I was there with him when this happened. I don’t know anything about plumbing or home maintenance, but I can provide morale support.
What about you? How do you help your friends and family through the tough times?

You were truly a wonderful comfort to them,Nancy !
I try to do what I can when I see a need, but ,as you said ..I think just being there fully in the moments of need is sometimes the best we can offer our loved ones or anyone else that we see needs a helping hand. Sometimes, just a listening ear, a comforting hug or maybe even just a pot of soup can help in some way.
I know how much your loving help meant the world to your family!
So sorry for your loss!

Hi Miss Judi,
One thing I learned from this whole experience is that it is the simple gestures can make the most difference.

I’m sure Kathryn’s husband was very grateful for your help and support. You forgot to mention that he treated you to a lunch consisting solely of doughnuts from a local bakery! I hear that they were delicious too! π

Hi Mr. Ken,
I chose to “forget” my donut lunch, since it doesn’t really fit in with my image as a health fanatic. π
