We are bombarded with information, images and stuff. Just one email from a content marketing firm has about 20 article links. I find myself so overwhelmed that I no longer even open the email. I just hit delete. I can’t even be bothered to open the email, scroll down through all the stuff and hit the “unsubscribe” button.
You would think that a content marketing firm would know better than to send out something like this.
Perhaps it’s a generational thing, the millenials and what not are used to this type of information overload and they seem to thrive on it. I do love to have a few things going on at once, but that is it.
What about you? Do you find yourself overwhelmed with information? If so, how do you handle it?

Nancy, maybe an email like that is for you to find one or two things that interest or pertain to you and not a course on all the information being presented. Kind of like fishing, throwing something out there to see if they get a nibble on one or two. I dunno. Yes info overload. Everyone has a new way, their way, best way…just so you read their stuff and they can sell advertising space. It always goes back to sales…

Hi Andy,
Good point; I think you are on to something there. I just get so overwhelmed in looking at all the choices that I give up.

Nancy yes! there are lots of emails I can’t be bothered to read any more – it’s generally the ones with much too much information, I think marketers should start looking at things differently and aim for (much) less is more. I’ve just had a whole glorious offline month 🙂 and I’m going to be pretty picky from now on & start by scrolling down to Unsubscribe on a number of emails – thanks for reminding us it can be done 🙂

Hi Bea,
Isn’t it amazing how refreshed you feel after being offline for a while. Good for you for doing it for an entire month. I feel accomplished if I can manage it for a day. 🙂

Can you remember those days where we just had books and computers and cell phones were not even on the scene yet? I want just one of those days again…

Hi Tony,
Yes, I remember those days quite fondly. I do have a smartphone, but I never use it.
