One of the many reasons I love visiting western Massachusetts is that is so much less built up than around Boston. There are plenty of farm scenes and hiking trails.
If you’ve read my Vermont blog posts, you know I love cows. I was so excited to see cows as we were driving around western Mass. I would excitedly call out to Mr. Ken, “Oh look cows!” I must say Mr. Ken wasn’t quite as excited as I was about the cows. 🙂
Here is one such bucolic cow scene, with the quintessential barn buildings in the background.

We decided to explore Roberts Hill. Roberts Hill in Northampton, Massachusetts, is named after Robert Lyman, an early settler who explored and enjoyed the area in the late 17th Century.  The hill and surrounding areas, including Roberts Meadow, bear his name due to his frequent hunting and fishing excursions there. The area was also the site of Roberts Meadow Reservoir, built in the late 19th century, which required the relocation of families from the area.Â
Here are some pretty and peaceful forest scenes from our hike.
More peaceful forest scenes.
And here is our intrepid hiker Mr. Ken at the summit. Note the pretty rolling hills in the background.
And here is yours truly at the summit.
Have you ever hiked around Western Massachusetts? If so, where did you hike?
