Go with the flow

It’s good to chill out on vacation and be flexible. The first full day of our Vermont vacation our plan was to hike at Jamaica State Park. We had a fabulous time there last year (see the Dumplings anyone? ) post. This sounded good except all of the park trails were closed due to mudslides from the July floods.

We had a fun conversation with a nice park ranger at Jamaica. She told us that she and her husband love being park rangers. As a matter of fact, they live in an RV right on the premises. I just love talking to people when we are out and about, you really get a sense of people and place.

Since it was a glorious Vermont day, we decided to hike at another favorite spot, Lowell State Park. The sun was shining through the trees and it was good to be alive!

Here is dear Mr. Ken, the intrepid hiker. 🙂

The leaves were just starting to change color. I couldn’t help but notice the pretty red maple leaves on the ground.

Red is the color of fall and we also saw these pretty red mushrooms popping up all over the forest floor. I believe they are the scarlet elf mushroom. Very aptly named, don’t you think?

We are always ravenous after being outside all day, so we stopped at a local country store/deli. There is nothing better than that first bite of sandwich! We were especially excited to see Dot’s Pretzels for sale. If you haven’t tried these pretzels, you must. Dot adds spices to the pretzels so they have a lot of flavor.

We had a glorious day and all because we “went with the flow.” Instead of being upset that we couldn’t hike where we wanted to, we chose to enjoy the day wherever it took us.

How have you gone with the flow?
