I’m taking a break from writing about our wonderful Old Quebec vacation to do a little rant. My latest pet peeve is what I call lazy marketing.
I have been getting emails from companies wanting to do business with me. Since each email is worded pretty much the same, I know these companies must do have gotten my email from a sleazy company called Never Bounce. This sleazy company “scrapes” the Internet and harvests data. They must have harvested some really old data.
Here’s the email I keep getting:

Hi Nancy,
A colleague sent me your LinkedIn and suggested I reach out. I handle small business partnerships for DealClosers .
We build sales “machines” for very small businesses because their referrals are unpredictable
Instead, owners need a source of new deals that they can control. We build a process that turns prospects into sales calls, sparing you the work and investment. We’ve done this for 500+ clients (companies like Taktical, Learned Media, and Smylen).
As for results, most of our clients just want an extra 1 or 2 new paying clients per month, and that’s typically what we deliver.
Bottom line- if you can manage the addition of a couple of new clients each month, we should talk.
Can we plan a call with a consultant? Let us know what dates and times are you available?

There are so many things wrong about this email. Where to start? First of all, I do NOT have a LinkedIn profile, so this person is lying.
Second, if they had taken just 2 minutes to Google me, they would see that I am a blogger who writes about Quebec, Vermont, kayaking and chipmunks. Nowhere on my blog do I mention that I have a company.
Here is a partial list of sleazy companies that have sent me this same email:
Deal Closers
Eadyn Consulting
Avante Sourcing
Code District
Brandtbelt Group.
Heck, even the names of these companies are not very professional.
I found my so called profile on Never Bounce. There was a link to remove one’s profile, which I dutifully clicked. I got a reply back saying, “We do not have a profile for you on file.” Oh really, what about the link I sent you that is my profile.
Finally, after 3 months of going back and forth with Never Bounce, my profile was removed. This exchange said it all; a careless, underhanded company showing false data.
What has been your experience with unsolicited emails from people and companies wanting to business with you?

Hi,
It always amazing me how lazy people can be. What were these companies thinking? That you would just blindly want to do business with them?

Hi Caroline,
I know what you mean. These stupid companies have lost a lot of business (and money) by being so careless.
