NEWS FLASH: Mr. Ken so enjoyed writing guest blog posts, that he wanted to do another one! This one is all about the antics of one of our chipmunks, CC. Enjoy!
As I’ve written about in previous blogs here, I like working on do-it-yourself (DIY) projects around our house. One project that I’ve been planning for a while is to install some security cameras around our house. Fortunately, we don’t have any serious security concerns but since they’ve gotten much better and cheaper I figured why not install a couple! The ones I wanted to install required a low voltage power cable which made the project a little more challenging.
So recently I got my tools out and installed the first camera overlooking the driveway and side entrance next to the garage. It did turn out to be a nice challenge figuring out how I was going to neatly run the power cable from the camera to the outlet in the garage but I’m happy to say that it turned out well and the camera works great! I can see a nice clear image of our cars / driveway and the side entrance steps.
Now comes the fun part! For those of you who don’t know, Nancy and I LOVE chipmunks! There are several that hang out around our house and we feed them peanuts and fruit and even have trained them to eat right out of our hand! We also always give them names too. Our dear little chipmunk in the front, named C.C., lives under the steps and patiently sits on the top step every afternoon waiting for his peanuts. It turns out that our new security camera allows me to monitor the steps to know when he’s there so Nancy or I can give him his treats. No matter where I am, I can pull up the security camera and check to see if dear C.C. is waiting on the steps! It doesn’t matter if I’m at a food store, taking a walk or visiting a friend. I fire up the camera app on my phone and check for C.C. If I see him I just call up Nancy and tell her she needs to drop what she’s doing and go feed C.C.! In fact, the photo at the top of the blog shows Nancy doing just that!
I’m really pleased how my latest DIY project has turned out. We just love our new C.C. cam but not as much as C.C. does!
Do you have any security camera stories you’d like to share?

Haha, I love the idea of phoning Nancy from out of state to say “Hey, CC needs feeding” 😉

Hey Colin,
I suspect you and Mr. Ken like this idea more than I do. 🙂

Haha, it sounds a great idea but I would be wary of doing it as I might run the risk of dialling-in only to see that it was my dinner being left on the porch!! 😉
