Ack, I probably shouldn’t use the word “Covid” and the word “surprise” in the same sentence. Enough with the Covid already!
I don’t know about you all, but since I have sheltering in place, I’ve had a lot of time to think. As I was reflecting this weekend, I realized that I have been surprised by a few things during this time.
1. Food (again!).
Okay, I will admit it, I am addicted to Utz Rippled Potato Chips, Friendly’s Vienna Mocha Chip Ice Cream and yummy cupcakes from our local market. Where are the healthy fruits and vegetables you may wonder? Well, they are still in the refrigerator and that’s where they’ll stay. Hey, desperate times call for desperate measures. We all must take our enjoyment where we can.
2. Is it time for cocktails?
I must admit, I am not much of a drinker, but that may start to change. I was in one of our larger supermarkets the other day, and they have quite an extensive beer and wine collection. I slowed down from my “get in, get food, and get out” mentality to sloooooowly walk up and down the alcohol aisles. Mmm, the red wine looks good, or maybe the white wine, or even better the pink wine! (Er, technically I think it’s called Rose.) Or, maybe I will take up craft beer tasting as a new hobby. After all, we must continually learn new things, right?
3. Having fun waiting in line.
I am a Type A and don’t like waiting in line for anything. But, will wonders never cease? After I completed my beer and wine saunter, I dutifully loaded up my shopping cart with food. Since there were only 2 cashiers and many people shopping, there was a long line for check out. My first thought was, “oh good, I don’t have quickly go home and stare at the four walls like I have been doing every day for the past 3 months. At least here in the store, I can people watch and count how many types of ice cream the store has.” (The checkout line ran down the freezer aisle.) I then quickly took out my phone and proceeded to text my favorite cousin, who is the funniest human being I have ever met. I really tried to stifle my laughs at his texts. Dare I say I had fun waiting in line?
So what surprises have you found during this time?
