I love how my dear Mr. Ken has embraced reading. It all started several years ago when we were in a hiking phase (way before my foot issues . . .). I recommended Mr. Ken read the books about the barefoot sisters who through-hiked barefoot the Appalachian Trail. They hiked both ways on the Appalachian Trail! Ever since then, Mr. Ken has been on a reading kick. He has even joined a book club and is instrumental in recommending what books the club reads.
His favorite place to read is curled up on the sofa, enjoying the afternoon sun streaming in the windows. Doesn’t he look very serious though? 🙂
Over the past few weeks, Mr. Ken has read the following books:
1. Gentleman from Moscow – Amor Towles
2. Beartown – Fredrik Backman
3. When We Were Yours – Lisa Wingate
4. Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman.
So what good books have you read lately?

Good for ken. Every evening just before sleep I read 1/2 hour, sometimes a lot more… especially if it’s a a good novel. A few weeks ago I finished the autobiography of Paul Getty, “As I See It”. A few nights ago I finished the new biography’s on the life of Muhammed Ali, and now have started a biography on Abraham Maslow. Generally I go back and forth from Fiction to Non-fiction. Recent fiction reads are Medicine River by Thomas King & Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden (a novel on WW1) – each by 2 great Canadian indigenous writers. Thanks for asking Nancy. Cheers to you – Bruce.

Hi Bruce,
So nice to hear from you! I hope you have been well. It sounds like you enjoy biographies. I enjoy reading them too, it can be so inspiring to read about other people’s lives.

How did he like “When We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate I have the book on hold at the library and will be picking it up and have heard mixed reviews. Like Bruce above me there I just finished a good biography about the life of Muhammed Ali don’t know if it was the same one or not but it was very good. I also read Nora Roberts book “Year One” and JD Robbs new one “Dark in Death” Happy reading if you or Mr. Ken decide to read any of these. Hope you both had a good Valentine’s Day and happy belated birthday to Mr. Ken.

Hi Red Sox Lady!
He really enjoyed, “When We Were Yours.” I just finished reading it too and I enjoyed it, although I did find it disturbing; it was based on real-life events.
Like you, I enjoy J.D. Robb. I will have to check out her latest, thanks to you.

I really liked all of the titles mentioned in Nancy’s blog but my favorite was “Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine”. I can’t say enough good things about it. It is a very warm, uplifting novel with good doses of humor and mystery. I liked “When we were yours” too, especially since it’s based on true events. Some people say it’s a lot like “OrphanTrain”, which I have not read. Beartown is an extremely powerful novel. Some not so nice things happen in it so it does take a bit of a thick skin helps.

Hi Sohair,
Don’t you just hate that when you read a book and end up not liking it. I feel funny not finishing a book, so I usually skim through the rest of a book that I don’t like.
