I had an interesting conversation with my friend Carole the other day. Now Carole is one of the most positive people I know so I was surprised when she said that she really disliked fall. According to her, “Everything dies and it gets really dark.” Me, on the other hand, I just love fall. It is my favorite time of year. It is so interesting that two people can have such different perspectives about the same thing!
Sure, I love summer and the daylight, but there is something so energizing for me about fall. I think it goes back to when I was in school. I just loved school and looked forward to the first day, starting with the last day of school! Contrast that to Mr. Ken, he never wanted the summer to end!
Why I love fall:
* The cooler weather, yet bright sunshine. I love bright sunshine, but in the summer, I have to cover myself with sunscreen every time I go outside. Since I spend a lot of time outside, this is a complete pain. I also don’t like hot weather. Although if you talk to me on a cold day in the winter, I am imagining the hot days of summer.
* The start of new things. Activities pick up. My consulting work starts up again. People are back from vacation and it’s easier to schedule time with them.
* The fall colors. I just love the bright red of the maple leaves, especially against a clear blue fall sky.
* No bugs. While I love my early morning summer walks, I hate the flying gnats that go with that. The cooler weather brings an end to the bugs.
What about you? What is your favorite season and why is it so?

I agree there’s something energizing about fall, and the red leaves on your tree are bursting with it! It’s still tropical hot here, and it’s getting exhausting: we’re all looking forward to cooler weather hopefully soon. I actually like all seasons, it’s the flow of change that makes them all so much part of life

I’m definitely an autumn person, too! I love the way morning mist veils the valley below and dampens all sounds; the colours of the trees that burst out when the sun hits the turning leaves; the cooler weather and shorter days (I love the dark, and dislike strong sunshine); cuddling up with a good book and a hot drink; the pace slows down from summer activities… and just about every other aspect of the season!

I agree that the fall season in New England can be very pretty. I just hope that we get some mild days so we can continue to go kayaking! The fall foliage looks especially nice from a kayak!

Hi Mr. Ken,
Yes, we see a lot of those beautiful red maples on our kayaking adventures, don’t we? They sure are pretty, especially against a bright blue sky.
