Stop and sit awhile

savor the moment

Ah, the lazy days of summer. Even though it has been many, many years since I’ve been in school, I have never lost that wonderful feeling of summertime. The warm days and bright sunshine just makes things better. That being said, I still need to learn to stop and enjoy the day.

I am juggling many things right now. Don’t get me wrong, I love being busy. The busier I am, the more organized I can be and the more I get done. I can take this a little too far sometimes though.

Yesterday was a busy day for me. Here’s my schedule:

8:00am — 10:00am:  Errands to run
10:00am — 11:00am: Stop by for a visit with Mom
12:30pm — 1:30pm:   Take train into Boston
2:00pm — 4:00pm:   Attend a Technology Conference
4:00pm –5:00pm:    Take subway from Boston to Cambridge
5:30pm — 7:30pm:   Attend a Fund Raising Event for a charity I am involved with.

As I sat talking with Mom, I kept looking at my watch, afraid that I would stay too long and not have enough time to get dressed and catch the train. I caught myself then and thought, “Don’t be in so much of a rush. You have plenty of time. Mom really enjoys your company and it is the least you can do for her.”

I then realized that I needed to stop always thinking ahead to the 52 things I need to do in the future. I need to stop, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the moment that I am in. Once I did that, my stress seemed to melt away.

What about you? Have you learned to stop and savor each moment?
