Create an oasis

Posted on April 30, 2014

We all need to recharge and relax. Even if you love what you do, you need a break. It’s wonderful to go to a different environment, but sometimes that’s just not possible. Relaxation can be a state of mind too.

I am not able to physically get away much these days, but I’ve managed to create a calm and soothing environment. How, you may ask? It’s all about the simplicity.

zen shiva yoga
1. Beautiful scenery.

This Shiva Rea yoga DVD was filmed in Santorini, Greece. Just looking at the scenery is enough to completely relax me. I love yoga for how it calms my body and my mind. The beautiful blue sky and water is an added bonus.

zen water bottle
2. Zen water bottle.

We all should be drinking lots of water every day. That’s not always easy. I love filling this bottle with lots of ice cubes and ice cold water. I sip it through out the day. It’s not that big, which initially bothered me. But, I figured out a way to make that a positive. When the bottle is empty, it’s a reminder to me to get up from my computer, go downstairs to the kitchen and refill it. I sit too long hunched over the computer and anything I can do to remind myself to get up and move is good.

I love the pale turquoise color too. It’s so restful. It makes me think of being at a spa. Ahhhhh.

3. Mount Washington rock.

This seemingly innocuous rock evokes so many happy memories and pleasant sensations. I found it in a sun drenched stream on Mount Washington. When I look at that rock, I can clearly see the sunlight streaming down and making the water sparkle. I can smell the pine trees and feel the forest calm.

So what about you? How do you create an oasis?
