We had a massive snowstorm this past weekend; we got about 2 feet of snow. It was the biggest snowstorm in 4 years. Yes, we live in New England and we need to expect snow, but when it is a slow news day, the storm takes over the news.
Mr. Ken has a snowblower, which he loves. (What guy wouldn’t love a big, noisy machine?) But Mr. Ken is a LONG way from age 20. I don’t like him outside in the cold using the snow blower. I suppose it is better than him shoveling, but not much better. He reluctantly agreed to hire someone to come and clear our driveway and walkway.
Yet, this morning, when I looked outside, here’s what I saw.
I thought he was just going to clear around his car, but he managed to do a lot of the driveway. Maybe he wants to be like our young 40 year old neighbor, who moves like a whirling dervish as he shovels in shorts no less! Sigh.
So what about you? How do you feel about not being 20 anymore?

Really hit home… I loved how you capture that mix of humor and wisdom about getting older. Made me nod more than once!

Hi Aarav,
Thanks so much for your comment. I’m glad this post resonated with you.
Hah, I find that certain things (like getting older) can either make you depressed or can make you find some humor in them.
Hope you are doing well.

I’m glad that I can cleanup the snow but I would much rather get my exercise kayaking or taking a hike with my dear wife!

Good choice Mr. Ken! Not only are kayaking and hiking more fun, but there is much less chance of injury.

No longer living in New Jersey, I can enjoy the snow an hour’s drive from here in California– at Mt Laguna In the Cuyamaca National Forest. I may not have the strength or endurance of when I was 20, but I’m managing well enough to at least enjoy my senior years. One of my fondest memories is when I was between 8 and 11 years old, when neighbors would pay us kids each a quarter to shovel out their cars after a big snow storm. Take care with the upcoming snow to come, Nancy.

Hey Art,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Hah, your memories sound like that of my husband…something he probably did too to earn spending money.
The next storm is imminent and I already have had a conversation with Mr. Ken about the fact he is forbidden to go out and shovel. Our plow guy will be coming by on Tuesday morning, once the snow has stopped.
We have no need to go out anywhere tomorrow.
Take care,
Nancy
