During some of our time in Vermont, we were fortunate to stay very close to the West River Trail. I went out there every morning for my walks.
The West River Trail’s story is the conversion of the historic West River Railroad that ran between Brattleboro, Vermont and South Londonderry, Vermont. It was a 36-mile narrow-gauge line that operated from 1880 to 1936 and was nicknamed “36 miles of trouble” due to frequent problems. After the railroad went out of business, its abandoned rail bed was transformed into a scenic trail, which is now maintained by organizations like the Friends of the West River Trail for hiking, biking, and other recreational activities.
It was so energizing and restorative to be walking in nature.
Here is the view from the bridge I crossed to reach the trail.
Here’s the view along the trail. I just love how the sun shines through the trees.
Here are some scenes of the West River, as seen from the trail. It was also wonderful to hear the sound of the running water.
Not only was there river scenes, but a pretty field along the way.
Have you walked near a river and if so, what did you see?
