So if you read my blog last week, Down for the count, you know I recently had shoulder surgery. I’ve been through it before, with my other shoulder so I know that it is a long haul, but if I do everything my doctor says and keep up with the physical therapy, my shoulder will be as good as new.
It is winter here in New England, so I am more or less homebound for now. I don’t want to take a chance at slipping and falling outside. Since my arm will be in a sling for 6 weeks, I am also somewhat immobile.
But, me, being ever the optimist, can always find things to make me happy. This blog is about my morning routine which brings me much joy.
Coffee!
Of course, my favorite coffee is Vermont Country Blend (since I love Vermont).
I especially enjoy drinking it in my pretty Vermont mug. We bought this at a local Vermont pottery shop. I have a few mugs with different patterns and colors. I like using this one in the winter, since the blue reminds me of cold (and it is cold in the winter!)
As I am sipping my Vermont coffee, I love reading the paper. I like reading a hard copy; I find it hard to read things online. We get the Boston Globe delivered every day and I look forward to reading it.
The newspaper!
Most of the news is depressing. While I want to be informed, I tend to skim through the negative articles. My favorite part of the paper is the Pluggers comic. Almost every day, they apply to me.
I enjoyed this one since it rang all too true. When you call any Customer Service line, you enter voicemail h*ll. I don’t want AI chat or whatever to answer my question, I want a real person. Yes, I have been known to yell “representative” in my day too.
The gang!
And last, but not least, my adorable welcoming committee. From left to right (front row): Barley, Caleb, Bernard. From left to right (back row): Chester, Pickles and Winston. You may notice that Winston has a little flower on his head. He is our resident flower child. 🙂
What little things bring you joy?

I really enjoyed reading your blog this morning and hope your recovery is speedy and complete. I too enjoy my morning coffee and a a morning survey of the neighborhood from my deck, no matter the temp. If it is cold, I put on my robe and breathe in the fresh air. I am not out there very long before I come in and watch the news on television, unless it is spring or summertime and I need to walk around the yard and check the progress of my gardens. Peace.
