Down for the count

Posted on January 8, 2025

In December last year, I had to have surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder. I had the same surgery for my right shoulder in 2021, so I knew what to expect. All I can say is ouch!

You wear the sling 24/7, even while sleeping. Four times a day, you are supposed to remove the sling and let your arm dangle. Who would have thought that just that tiny movement could cause so much pain.

Luckily, Mr. Ken had recently bought a recliner, so I plan to sleep in that for the next 4-6 weeks. With shoulder surgery, you can’t lie flat because it is way too painful. Last time, I slept in my bed with a bunch of pillows behind me. Yeah, that didn’t work too well because the pillows kept moving.

Here I am, in the famous recliner. My sling is a rather complicated affair and takes both Mr. Ken and me to take it on and off.

The hot pink sneakers are cheering me up. They have laces, but they are slip ons. You need slip on shoes after surgery since you can’t tie a shoe with one hand.

Even though this recovery is a long, painful one, I am cheerful. I was so pleasantly surprised and touched by two flower arrangements that arrived not long after my surgery.

This first arrangement was sent by our good friend, Cloice. I love the colorful flowers and the birch vase.

This second arrangement was sent by my dear Mother-in-law, my brother-in-law and his partner.

What do you do to cheer yourself up while recovering from an injury?
