Mr. Ken and I did more than just eat on our vacation. We managed to get out and have some lovely hikes.
When we visited Vermont in July, it was super hot! It did feel much cooler walking around in the woods though, especially if we were near a stream.
Here are some scenes from Cutler Park in Dorset, Vermont. Here is Mr. Ken, intrepid hiker.
And here am I, looking a little worse for wear since it was so hot that day. I really enjoyed our hike, even though you would never know by the expression on my face. In my defense, this picture was taken on a bridge over a stream. Except there was a railing on only one side!
Our favorite thing about going to Cutler Park was this bear sign. You may think this sign is cute, but it is all too true! Bears are everywhere in Vermont.
So have you ever encountered a bear on your hikes?

In 1982, my husband and I were on a bicycle touring vacation in the Michigan U.P. and he was pedaling up Brockway Mountain, and about the pass directly between 2 black bear cubs on one side of the rode and the mama on the other. I was in the sag wagon with the directors of the tour when we saw the bears and Dan. We backed the can up, opened the side door and grabbed Dan, bike and all just as all 3 bears met a few feet behind us.. Needless to say, he accepted every beer people bought him at dinner that night.

We did a couple of weeks camping out in both Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. On one driving occasion a bear crossed the road less than a hundred feet in front of our car– and running fast. I didn’t realize bears had such speed– like watching a speedster dog. Another time at our campground, the rangers had stressed to us to utilize the heavy metal bins at our site to store all of our edibles… and to bring nothing onto our tent. Later that night we could hear the bears outside our tent. In the morning we saw a muddy pawprint on one of our car’s windows. About a quarter of a mile from us, a large group of party goers were getting fined for leaving food on their tables and in their vehicles. The bears had severely trashed their area, including a thoroughly ripped convertible top. The rangers had stopped by their area that night to beep their horn to chase the bears away. The group (which had been heavily drinking that night) were told how lucky they were to have survived such an irresponsible time. Gotta respect the wildlife.

Hey Art,
You got that right. And the wildlife was here way before we were.
Hope all is well with you.
