I was a Math and Science major in college, and spent a good deal of my career as a project manager for technical projects. Hah, you would think that using technology would be second nature to me. Well, not quite.
Hello, hello. Can anyone hear me?
I remember the first time I was using my new mobile phone. It rang and I couldn’t figure out how to answer it; there was no “answer” button. Luckily, the twenty-something that was sitting next to me, kindly pointed out that all I had to do was swipe left (or was it swipe right.) Not intuitive. And I am one of the 2 people in America who is not tied to their phone all day. I mainly use it to play Candy Crush.
Mr. Ken, being the cute little geek he is, persuaded me to get a Google Pixel 8 phone. According to him, this is the latest and greatest Android phone. I have no idea what that means, but I went along with it.
TV trauma
Back in the good old days when one wanted to turn on the tv, all you had to do was push the “on” button. Well, not anymore. There are several remotes that need to be operated to just turn the tv on! One remote is for the cable; one remote is for the speakers; one remote is for the actual tv; and who knows what the other 5 remotes are for? I look at all these remotes and other than being different colors and sizes, they all seem to have the same buttons.
Mr. Ken has tried many, many times to explain to me what to do. He even wrote it down in “very simple” terms (so he says.) Yet, for the life of me I can’t turn the tv on. So, when he is not around, I just don’t watch tv.
Does anyone really know what time it is?
I love my regular watches; they have hands and clear numbers. It is quite easy to change the time. But not so with digital watches. All I see on these watches are buttons that say set, start/split, stop/reset and mode. Okay, I get set, but when I push that button the watch starts flashing all zeroes. Oops. What am I starting and what the heck is split? And mode?????
So when my digital watch needs to be changed, I have to ask Mr. Ken to do it. He takes the watch and it 3 seconds hands it back to me. Sigh.
How do you deal with technology?

Hi – I can empathize with you on this! Technology can do good, but it can also be very frustrating.

Hi Diane – thanks for stopping by. I still don’t understand why so many are needed, especially since they all have essentially the same buttons.
