A foodie’s guide to Old Quebec

Well, this is my version of a foodie’s guide. Neither Ken nor I are foodies. Sure, Ken loves his donuts and I love my sweets, but I’m not really into food. It is funny when we told people that we were going to Quebec City, everyone said, “Oh that’s great. You will love all the great dining experiences there!”

Well, here is my version of a foodie’s guide to Old Quebec.

Morning treats

What could be more French than drinking coffee in a street cafe? Except it was freezing (in the 50’s) when we visited, so we didn’t feel much like sitting outside. Also, I love my coffee first thing in the morning before I go for my walks. I go for walks at 6 am, but the cafes didn’t open until 8 am. Must be a French thing. So what to do? What to do?

Where there is a will, there is a way. I came across a McDonald’s, down the street from where we were staying. Like I said in my prior post, The drive to Quebec, I normally would not set foot in a McDonald’s, but I know they have good coffee in my hometown, so I decided to give it a try. Mr. Ken was excited about this too, since he loves McDonald’s.

I was not disappointed. This coffee was just as delicious as that from a fancy French cafe. The folks in this McDonald’s were really friendly too. While we were waiting in line for our order, a man in front of us turned and smiled and asked us where we were from. Hah, it was pretty obvious we were not from Quebec since we were the only English speaking people in the place.

I wanted to have a picture of Mr. Ken standing outside this McDonald’s, but he was too excited to wait for that. He wanted to go in and get his coffee and treat! 🙂

We love staying in AirBnBs when we travel so we have a kitchen. We eat breakfast and dinner at our place and have a nice lunch out. We are so busy exploring during the day, we are usually too tired to go out at night.

Mr. Ken got into the spirit of things as he enjoyed some yummy French pastries. Since he visited this one pastry shop every day, he was on a first name basis with the employees. Here he is enjoying his daily treat while sitting in our flat.

Cute grocery stores

We were lucky to have a nice grocery store near us, L’Inter Marche. Even this store looked like something you would find on a quiet French street. There were quaint baskets and pretty flowers out front. It was all quite inviting.

Dinner was something simple like a frozen pizza and a salad.
