I had an “aha” moment this summer: “Vacation, for me, is just as much a state of mind as a state of place.” We normally don’t go away in the summer; I don’t like the crowds. It can be fun to stick close to home. Our town is deserted since most folks go away.
These long summer days, warm nights and bright mornings are tailor-made for vacation thinking. A few weeks ago, I decided to take a “tech” vacation. I totally shut off my phone and my email. I focused instead on kayaking (no surprise there) and on seeing friends. After the first day, my urge to check my emails went away. I did tell my friends and my work colleagues that I was going to do this, so they were prepared.
While I am not still on my “tech” vacation, I am still feeling refreshed and renewed. I think it is all the time I have spent outside. It is just so good for the soul.
What are you doing for summer vacation?

Tech vacation I think these days are very compulsory.
For me, I am on vacations in Srilanka, amazing place. An above expectations place for me, I think blogs online didn’t did justice to this place.
If you are a nature loving person, than it’s a must go place!

Hi Colors of my life,
Srilanka sounds like a fabulous place to visit – how exotic! I will put it on my list. π
Hope your summer is going well.

Hi Nancy,
We came back after spending fabulous 14 days overthere.
It’s awesome and wonderful, with everyone to enjoy, loads of trekking to do and nature with good beaches as well.

I totally agree that taking a break from tech is so so rewarding and necessary. For me it’s going to be 12 days in the Italian Trento region (up north and cooler!), then back in Rome for a week and then …. Chicago here I come!

Hello dear Nancy. Having 3 cats at home, I think we will stay in the city. Graz has so much to offer anyway. π β€

Dear friend Ralph,
An added bonus is that your darling cats provide lots of comic relief, not to mention blog post material. π
