The other day I was hard at work at my computer, er rather I was attempting to reach Level 400 in Candy Crush, when I heard Mr. Ken come back from shopping. I thought I heard him say:
“Peep is in the house.”
I will admit that I am getting a bit more hard of hearing these days, but I couldn’t imagine what Mr. Ken really said. Peep is the name of one of our beloved “pet” chipmunks.
So I go downstairs and I see Mr. Ken, by the door to the family room. He is waving his arms around and doing a little jig. All the while he is saying:
“Help me catch Peep. He is in the house.”
So, Peep really did come in the house. By this time, I am laughing so hard that I am falling over. Out of the corner of my eye, I see our Peep, leisurely walking around the kitchen, just checking things out. If you are at all familiar with chipmunks, you know that trying to catch them is like trying to capture air. It is impossible.
Peep then takes a stroll into the family room, checking out under the sofa and by the wall. Mr. Ken is still waving his arms and dancing around. I am not much help, since I am still laughing so hard.
I did have the presence of mind to think that if Peep went into a tiny space, all we would have to do is put out a trail of peanut treats and we could lure him out.
Alas, finally Peep did enough exploring and strolled out the door.
We have titled this event, “Peep’s big adventure.”
What big adventures have you had lately?

That would have been quite the exciting adventure in my house if my 2 cats and my hound dog saw a chipmunk in the kitchen. But I like the ending to your story better.

Hi Laura,
Yes, chipmunks, dogs and cats definitely do not mix. We could never have a dog since they go after chipmunks.

This was indeed quite an adventure! How fun that Mr Peep has a name! We have assorted critters coming through our apartment as well but there is usually a great deal of squealing going on so I don’t think we enjoy them quite as much as you enjoy Mr Peep.

Hi Purple Pumpernickel,
I probably wouldn’t enjoy Mr. Peep as much if he was a regular visitor inside our house. š

Looking back this was pretty funny but I must admit I was concerned that we’d be up at midnight still looking for Peep somewhere in the house! Peep is in a class by himself for certain!

Hi Ken,
I think Peep would have found us if he were still in the house at midnight. He would be looking for food! š

Hey Tony,
Yes, that would have made quite the video – especially of Mr. Ken doing his jig. Alas, our Peep is quite camera shy. If he saw us attempting to film, he would probably disappear into a tiny hole in the wall, never to reappear. š
