So I have been enjoying my sojourns into Boston to meet with potential consulting clients. I recently was lucky to have a client located right near Fenway Park. Yes, that’s right, right next to the home of the Red Sox. I walked from Back Bay Station to this location. I was fascinated by the walk because I have never walked this route before, even with all the walking I do in Boston!
Here are some of the interesting sights I saw.
1. A tucked away mystery entrance.
This looks like an entrance to an old subway stop, but I don’t know. The architecture is pretty cool, with some Victorian looking street lights. The fence makes it look like a prison though.
2. Old-fashioned clock.
I just love these old clocks. You don’t see too many of them these days since they have all been torn down to make room for modern stuff.
3. Part of the “Emerald Necklace.”
For those of you who aren’t native Bostonians, the Emerald Necklace is a 1,100-acre chain of parks linked by parkways and waterways in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts. It gets its name from the way the planned chain appears to hang from the “neck” of the Boston peninsula. (Description taken from Wikipedia.)
Who knew that there was a park tucked away here? This picture doesn’t do it justice.
Reason # 101 why I love walking in the city, you just never know what you’ll see!
What about you? What interesting sights have you seen lately?

This is nice, Nancy. Reminded me of all the great walks I used to take when I lived in NYC.

I’ve worked in downtown Newark, NJ for some 20 years now and I have slowly watched as it transforms itself to a more aesthetically pleasing environment with the many old building renovations, artistic murals and the addition of the arts center. There are walking tours you can take to visit some of the historic landmarks and architecture that once made the city a place where folks “dressed up” to go shopping at Bamberger’s (n/k/a Macy’s). It’s funny, I once walked one of these tours and as I passed the old Macy’s building, I remembered Jane telling me that she worked at the bank just across the street from where I work now and often shopped at Bam’s on her lunch hour. Funny that I would be working in the City Gary’s Mom worked in and now in a building just across the street from the Chapel where she married your uncle Norman. But, like you, I have discovered a few hidden treasures, the Newark Art Museum is a great place to have lunch and hear live Jazz concerts during the Summer. I could go on, but as you suggest, by simply taking a walk one can discover many hidden treasures, no matter where you are–just open your eyes and take a look.

Hi Judy,
Newark must be so interesting to see! I remember seeing it when I was taking the commuter rail from Summit to Hoboken. It sure has changed over the years.
