I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. I thought I would be more emotional about it, but I feel as though a great weight has been lifted. Now, I can focus on enjoying the summer. And that means kayaking! No big insights this week – I’m more tired than I thought I would be after having been so busy for the past few months, getting Mom’s house ready to sell.
Here are two of our beloved kayaks, all ready to go! These were the ones we had stored at Mom’s house. Since we only have a one car garage, it’s hard to fit 4 kayaks in it. Yes, we have two sets of kayaks; doesn’t everyone? We have one set we take on the river and one set we take on a nice lake. These are our river kayaks. 🙂

I don’t even have one set 🙂 I hope you get lots of pleasure out of yours this season!

Hi Bea,
We have been out 9 times this year and so far so good. Lately, it has been over 90 degrees so it is too hot to go out. The weather is supposed to get cooler next week.

I know nothing about kayaking, so I would have expected it to be cooling when the weather’s hot. No? We had over 98° F here today 🙂

Hello dear Nancy 😀
I do hope that the weather is kind to you this summer and have a lot of fun with your kayaks.
Oh dear, storage of your kayaks in the garage must be a problem. I had a mezzanine deck built in my last home garage and, boy, was it useful ! Here is a photo taken on my last day in the house.

Take care. Ralph x

Dear friend Ralph,
I think that Mr. Ken, being the handy person he is, could probably build a mezzanine deck. I think. . . 🙂

First off congratulations, Nancy, on a very difficult task well done! I would agree w/ Ralph’s suggestion and only modify it for my own experience to having built a loft around the perimeter of my garage that stored an amazing amount of stuff. If you’re a bit more adventurous and willing to be a little more of a risk taker consider a pulley system – very easy to design and it can “launch” your kayaks up via ropes/cables that suspend them over top of your vehicles or whatever else you use your garage. I’m sure you can Google what I’m talking about as I dreamed it up and then did the same to find how others did it. I just would strongly recommend keeping the vehicles outside when doing anything w/ their suspended state – I think you can play out the movie to understand why. Now, enough of that – It’s time to enjoy your newfound relaxed breath doing what you love together – HAPPY kayaking together!!!!

Hey Stephen,
Thanks so much for your comment. It is funny that you mention the pulley system because your brother Ken, was thinking the same thing! It must be a genetic thing.
It is way too hot this week to get out kayaking. Ken is carefully watching the weather to see when we can go out again. We are anxious to do so. Er, rather, we are anxious to go to Dairy Queen, which just happens to be on the way to our favorite kayaking place.

I live on a lake, and I haven’t kayaked on it yet (I have swum in it and been on a paddle board). Happy kayaking!

Hi there,
To live on a lake is one of my dreams. That way, all I would have to do is walk down to the lake with my kayak to go out. Bliss. 🙂

We both loved kayaking and want to get back into it. Storing a kayak has become our new challenge. You know the lowcountry here, kayaking on some of the inlets looks so ideal.

Hi Andy,
Yes, those inlets would be cool to explore. The only thing is those alligators are everywhere! I would be afraid they would eat the kayak (and the kayaker)! 🙂

It will be good for you and Ken to get away, in kayakers peace and bliss, so to speak… It sounds like a wonderful way of slowing down. All the best on your journey, Nancy.

Hi there,
I’m glad you like the boats. They are 8 years old this year and still look like new. That is because we clean them very thoroughly after each kayaking trip.
