Yet(!) another story from the life of Mr. Ken.
Mr. Ken just got back from his daily walk. He yells up the stairs. On an aside here, what is it about spouses that feel compelled to carry on a long conversation when you are not in the same room with them, yet when you are in the same room, it’s silence.
Mr. Ken: “Did you see what I bought for lunch? You’ll be happy because it is from Trader Joe’s.”
Me: “Okay, what is it?”
Mr. Ken: “Hot dogs!”
Me: “Hot dogs, you say? You know if you ever saw how they made hot dogs, you would instantly become a vegan.”
Mr. Ken: “These aren’t just any hot dogs. They are chicken hot dogs, so they must be healthy. They are also nitrate free. Did I tell you that I bought them at Trader Joe’s?”
Me: “Do I need to come downstairs and read the ingredients for you?”
Mr. Ken, mumbling: “Me and my big mouth. I should have kept quiet about the hot dogs.”
Do you have any food that you think is healthy for whatever reason, but it really isn’t?

I guess the bigger question is why we eat the foods we eat? Is it cultural, conditioning, who determines what’s healthy or not? Food is personal choice, best eaten consciously.

Hi,
Yes, I agree that food should definitely be eaten consciously. How many times do we sit in front of the tv and mindlessly eat? And we are usually eating junk food at that!

I like that you are a vegan, Nancy, as you belong, like me, to the green brigade. Out with toxic meat products, and in with healthy eating, naturally..best wishes… Raj.

Hi Raj,
The more I learn about how our food is raised, the more I am happy to eat vegan and vegetarian.

Dear friend Ralph,
Yes, that is what Mr. Ken keeps trying to tell me! I think he (and you) are living in an imaginary world. Kind of like the world of imaginary numbers – remember those from school days? š

Here, ads for kids’ snacks try to convince “mamma” that all the milk and eggs in them will make kids grow up strong and healthy – also, Nutella’s full of healthy nuts haha! I like your remark on the “long conversations when you are not in the same room” …

Hi Bea,
Yes, so many food manufacturers try to “fool” the public by making healthy claims. I wonder how many people are fooled by this?

The making of some foods (like hotdogs) just shouldn’t be thought about… But now, I think I need to start the barbecue because I suddenly have a craving … ! Anita

Hi Anita,
I agree with you. With foods like ice cream and candy, we should just enjoy them and not look at the food labels. Life is too short not to enjoy our food.
Enjoy the barbecue! š
