Ah, the lazy days of summer. Even though it has been many, many years since I’ve been in school, I have never lost that wonderful feeling of summertime. The warm days and bright sunshine just makes things better. That being said, I still need to learn to stop and enjoy the day.
I am juggling many things right now. Don’t get me wrong, I love being busy. The busier I am, the more organized I can be and the more I get done. I can take this a little too far sometimes though.
Yesterday was a busy day for me. Here’s my schedule:
8:00am — 10:00am: Errands to run
10:00am — 11:00am: Stop by for a visit with Mom
12:30pm — 1:30pm: Take train into Boston
2:00pm — 4:00pm: Attend a Technology Conference
4:00pm –5:00pm: Take subway from Boston to Cambridge
5:30pm — 7:30pm: Attend a Fund Raising Event for a charity I am involved with.
As I sat talking with Mom, I kept looking at my watch, afraid that I would stay too long and not have enough time to get dressed and catch the train. I caught myself then and thought, “Don’t be in so much of a rush. You have plenty of time. Mom really enjoys your company and it is the least you can do for her.”
I then realized that I needed to stop always thinking ahead to the 52 things I need to do in the future. I need to stop, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the moment that I am in. Once I did that, my stress seemed to melt away.
What about you? Have you learned to stop and savor each moment?

I haven’t figured out how to stop an appreciate each moment or blessing but have figured out the need to. 🙂 Life I short and I don’t want to spend it stressing or worrying but appreciate the blessings around…

Hi Andy,
So true, so true. I think I have it to stop and appreciate the moment, but then something always happens to get me out of that mode. I need to work on that. 🙂

I think most of us are busy running around doing (too many) things. It gets out of hand when you’re doing one thing and worrying about the next one. I’m experimenting with really writing down a proper weekly schedule and to do list. The theory is that once on paper it’s supposed to be out of my head & I can savour the moment. And if life happens and gets in the way, at least I didn’t pre-stress too!

Hi Bea,
I have heard that also, that writing things down helps. I have heard that it is especially helpful to write things down that you are worried about. I need to try that one.

“Have you learned to stop and savor each moment?” Sounds like a donut store advert dear Nancy 😀 ❤

Dear Friend Ralph,
Yes, it may be so. But that would only be on Mr. Ken’s blog, not mine! Since I am all about health and fitness, a donut doesn’t fit. Unless, of course, it’s a rogue advert. 🙂

Nancy, I’m glad to say that I have learned that key lesson of life. I think I learned it fully while sitting with my father in the last months of his life ~ chatting, reading poetry, listening to music together. It was on summer days and evenings and we cherished every second. It hasn’t left me and I hope it never will. Life is too short to be busy all the time!

When I began my early retirement, my wife had to slow me down from all my little hobbies and home activities. She reminded me of all the extra time I now have chill in between my daily goals– and it’s comfortably put me more into leisurely mode of thought and motion.
