Most of us are always looking for the next big thing. This is especially true in this age of technology, where we’re always looking ahead to the next new shiny toy. Newer is better than old right?
Well, not always. I was reminded of this last week when I spent the day with my oldest friend. I have known Lisa since I was 6 months old. You could say we have quite the history together.
There’s nothing like an old friend. They get you. No explanations are needed. Lisa has seen me at my best; she was in my wedding party. She has seen me at my worst; she was there to comfort me after my Dad died.
At the end of our day together, I felt energized and renewed. It was fun to reminisce about the past.
A big shout out to my good friend Lisa, who has always been there for me. Thank you!
Do you prefer the old or the new? Or, does it depend on the circumstance?
* I was originally going to post a picture of two little old ladies, to depict old friends, but then I didn’t want Lisa to think that I view her as a little old lady!
Friends picture is from Find old friends.

I made the Blog!!! Thank you Nancy for the great shoutout. You ARE my longest friendship (you aren’t Old, because that would make me Old as 7 weeks your senior…). Long friendships are the best!

nice listening into you two …old ladies haivng a conversation 🙂 old friends are worth their weight in gold, though I’ve started testing out the blog-waters to see what kind of relationships develop over time. Btw I’m enjoying your blog Nancy, I like the way you vary your posts which are both thoughtful and smile-producing.
Oh, and old mugs are so much more comforting than new ones, however cool they may be!

Dear friend Ralph,
You are a good friend too. You are “old” ( your own words), so that must make you a good old friend. 🙂

I’ve checked. Some mutual friends say his entire family went missing during the Liberian civil war. I hope they are wrong.
Thanks for the suggestion!

When I was a “little” kid (early 1950’s), my friends and I played stickball and football in Newark, NJ’s city streets. We rode our bicycles miles from home. I walked 8 city blocks to elementary school. At seven years old I could take my brother of five on the bus to the downtown movie theaters. Today, my California neighborhood streets are silent of the sounds of children playing. Kids are being driven to school. I-phones, computer technology and the fear of pedophiles has enslaved the newer generations to this lifestyle. I felt better when 40 years ago I had to caution kids about riding their skateboards in the middle of our neighborhood streets. I am now happy for those kids who experienced “that” fun time.

Hi,
Yes, it is a very sad commentary that kids don’t play outside much these days. They don’t know what they are missing!
