I had to get two new tires for my car. What did I do? Of course I asked Mr. Ken, the car guy, to help me. His words to me were “Toyo.” What? Is that short hand for Toyota? Nope, it’s a type of tire. Since small cars have small tires, the tires should be relatively inexpensive. But relative is in the eye of the beholder. For the price of two tires, I could have completely re-stocked my exercise DVD library.
Since Mr. Ken was nice enough to do all the legwork for the tires, I went with him to the tire place. Even before we got out of the car, his eyes lit up since right next to the tire place was a tool place. I was afraid he was going to run into the tool place and leave me to deal with the tire guys. Ack, this is definitely a man’s territory.
In the tool place, Mr.Ken was like a little kid in a candy store. He slowly wandered up and down every aisle. I amused my self by trying to find something pink in the tool store. Something, anything. I succeeded. This is construction string. I have no idea what that is, it just looks like pretty pink string to me.
I also found some cute little tires. I have no idea what these are used for, toy trucks perhaps?
Mr. Ken was happy because he found some neat stuff. I thought he had an entire collection of paint brushes downstairs, but he claims he doesn’t have this particular brush. I can’t say much since my exercise DVD collection seems to be growing exponentially by the week. The tarp is a camouflage pattern. It looks like he is about to do some sort of military exercise, but I am afraid to ask him about it. 🙂
So my questions for you this week:
1. What the heck is construction string?
2. What will Mr. Ken do with a camouflage tarp?
3. Why are tires for small cars so expensive?

Hi dear Nancy,
In response to your questions:
1) Builders’ dental floss
2) So you can’t find his donut stash
3) So that wives cannot afford exercise DVDs
I hope that helps my friend 😀 ❤

Dear Friend Ralph,
You win the prize for the most creative answers! Although I’m not sure builders practice good dental hygiene. 🙂
As for Mr. Ken hiding his donut stash, I think he has stashes all over the place! Wild horses couldn’t drag the locations out of him.
Yes, sadly, ‘stupid’ things like good tires for my car are interfering with my exercise DVD collecting. What a shame!

Hey Professor,
Ah yes, camping. Mr. Ken loves camping because he gets to wear the same clothes for days on end. He doesn’t like changing his clothes; he claims that’s how he saves water since there aren’t as many clothes to wash.

Have you seen the price of children’s clothes.. they are much smaller than adults and seem to be twice the price..must be the same with tyres.. Construction string is used to ensure that walls are straight before doing the brickwork and the camouflage tarp is just affectation, nothing wrong with plain colours…hope that helped.

Hi there,
Yes, good point about children’s clothes. It seems the smaller and the cuter the clothes, the more expensive they are. 🙂
Thanks, too, for the re-blog. It is appreciated.

String often helps make sure you have a straight line (either vertical or horizontal) It used to all be white or tan, but color has become trendy…and besides wives think of ways to use it in craft stuff.
With mass production, any tire of unusual size – extra large/wide/narrow/small will cost more than the average sedan tire on the road. (check online at Discount Tires or Tire Rack and research. Tires are highly negotiable.)
The tarp? All I can say is, duck.
Tool stores are wonderland…all this stuff for any job imaginable. So many odd and inventive things. If you got out with just a handful of things, you’re lucky!

Hi there,
Thank you for the explanation of construction string. It makes perfect sense, even though I wouldn’t have guessed that in a million years.
Good point about tires.
Hah – I see you are another tool store fan. Even though Mr. Ken only left the store with a few things, he is already talking about going back to the store. So a few things may turn into a few more things and a few more things. . .

Really old hardware stores – especially in small towns, never know what you’ll find…and the tales the owners will tell

Hi,
Now that sounds interesting. We still have an independent hardware store in our town. It has been owned by the same family for generations.
The store is chock-full of stuff, but when you ask the sales person where something is, they walk you right over to where it is. It is nice to go in there; even I like going in this store.

I did enjoy walking through the store and saw a few things that I might want to buy some day. The tarp is for the back cargo area of my SUV to keep things clean!

Hi Mr. Ken,
Yes, I know you enjoyed walking through that tool store. You had a big smile on your face during the entire time. It was just like the smile you have when you go into a donut store. 🙂
As for the camouflage tarp, I’m surprised you didn’t get a white one so that it would match your car. 🙂

Wow – that is expensive. For that price, I could completely furnish my home gym with top of the line equipment! 🙂
