When did we lose the sense of wonder and enchantment of things? As a child, I gleefully anticipated a snow day. I would go to bed the night before, hoping against hope that there would be enough snow to cancel school. Even though I loved school, it was so much fun to stay home and play. My favorite activity was building a snow cave at the end of our driveway, where the plows had piled snow.
Flash forward to adult-hood and what’s our first though when we hear about snow? “Oh no, this is going to totally mess up my schedule and cause me a lot of work.” Well a blizzard can change all that.
Right now, Boston is in the midst of a big blizzard. As I sit here, gazing out the window at the wall of snow, I’m happy. We have a travel ban so I can’t go anywhere even if I wanted to. I’m still staying at my Mom’s, so I know she is safe. We have enough food, we have several good books waiting to be read, and most importantly, we have a good working Internet connection, so I can get my Youtube Jessica workout fix. What more to do I need?
The pictures don’t do the blizzard justice. Basically, as I look out the window, all I see is white. So far, we have two feet of snow, with another foot expected before this blizzard ends. I am enjoying the snow, but I wouldn’t want to be one of the reporters, out in the snow in various towns around Massachusetts, talking about the storm. I don’t love the snow that much!
I love the gift of time: time to reflect and fondly recall childhood memories, time to just chill and relax.
What about you? Have you had an experience that has caused you to pause and reflect on things?

We had a rainbow two days ago that was so powerfully bright. I never saw one like this. It was brilliant like fire. And the background sky was different on the outside of the rainbow (darker) than the inside. Like an umbrella. It was amazing and filled you with wonder…
Enjoy the magic of your snow!

Hi Professor,
Yes, if we focus on the magic of the moment, life would be a lot better, that’s for sure.

While watching from my warm home yesterday,I was so grateful to have not lost power ! It was a powerful reminder that we can control many things in our lives, but the sheer force of nature is not one of them!

Hi Miss Judi,
Very aptly put! Nature is something we can’t control, no matter how hard we may try. 🙂

Hello Nancy 😀
Brrrr ! I am no fan of the cold. Keep warm my friend. It’s 20C, blue skies, here in southern Spain which is more to my liking.

Dear friend Ralph,
No, not yet. But with all this snow, I may even break down and start eating donuts! I need to keep up my strength for shoveling. Fruit just doesn’t do it! 🙂

Nancy, since we live in a suburb of Boston, we braved the “Blizzard of 2015” as well. After the snow (finally) stopped falling, my son commented that, while smaller storms seem to cause lots of grumbling, mostly about the inconveniences the storm has caused, monster events, like this one do just the opposite. Wonder? Enchantment? Yup, I get that.

Hi Steve,
Yes, it does seem that the monster events can bring out the best in people.
I hope you are surviving the snow okay. 🙂

Hi Nancy, can’t imagine what it must be like to have that much snow. I always love how it changes the whole landscape when we do get a bit!

Hi,
The pictures don’t do it justice. It does look pretty though. It is tough to shovel. 🙂

Hi Tony,
Yes, great way to get through this. It was a bright sunny day on Thursday and I can tell that the sun is higher in the sky. Spring is not far away. 🙂

Part of me wishes we’d have a snow day, and part of me wishes that that won’t happen because here in Wisconsin, a snow day doesn’t just mean that you’re not going to school, it also means you’re probably not going to be able to leave your house.

Hi,
Hah – I feel like I’m in Wisconsin these days. It’s Monday, 2/2, and we are in the midst of another snowstorm. It was supposed to snow for only a few hours, but it has been snowing all day and we have another 15 inches of snow. I don’t think it will ever stop snowing. 🙂
