Ah, summer is finally here

Posted on June 18, 2014

No deep thoughts this week, just a photo montage of our favorite summer activity – kayaking. We have been out 8 times already this year. Oh, the sights we’ve seen!

Why I love kayaking on the Charles River.

charles river flowers
1. The pretty flowers.

I’m not sure what these pretty flowering bushes are called, but the flowers were extra abundant this year. They may be rhododendrons.

2. The interesting wild life.

I call the swans, “monster swans,” because they are big birds! And they aren’t very even tempered either. For several years, we saw a pair of swans, then suddenly one year, there was only one swan. I believe they mate for life. A swan pair is back, so I’m hoping the swan found another mate. Soon, we hope to see baby swans.

3. More interesting wild life.

Okay, so Canadian Geese aren’t my favorite bird, but somehow seeing them on the Charles River is okay. I must admit, their babies are cute though.

4. Having fun with Mr. Ken.

My dear husband is usually miles ahead of me in his kayak. Who can figure this out, since I’m the one who does all the exercise. He claims it’s because he has such good “Olympic form.” I think it’s because he wants to get done so we can have our chicken parmesan sandwiches and a Dairy Queen Blizzard.

So what do you have planned for your summer?
