Normally, I view resolutions as things to be broken. Then you feel guilty and all out of sorts. Who needs that? But, in my quest to be more in charge of my destiny, I’ve decided to be more accountable. What better way than to publicly declare my intentions?
So here goes, my New Year’s Resolutions. Of course they are grouped into categories, since I love to organize things.
1. Physical.
I have the exercise thing down pat. I love, love, love getting up at 4:30 am to exercise! Yes, you can call me crazy.
I resolve to be more active during the day. Sure, I have my intense exercise sessions in the morning, but then I’m sitting at the computer for the rest of the day. And, a lot of that time in front of the computer is just perusing the Internet, e.g. wasting time.
I will do this by getting up from the computer at least every 90 minutes and moving! And I won’t be moving towards the kitchen to eat a cookie or some candy. 🙂
2. Nutrition.
a. I resolve to eat less sugar. I can’t completely give it up, even though I probably should. I know right now that I would not be able to keep that up. Mr. Ken will be very happy to hear of this one, since I will give all my cookies and candy to him. Oh dear, there go the pretzel M & M’s.
I will do this by only eating ONE sugar treat day. My goal is to have the sugar treat be ONE piece of hard candy.
b. I resolve to get more magnesium in my diet. Okay, so this is an odd one; I’ll admit it. I track my food intake on Sparkpeople.com and my daily report keeps telling me that I need more magnesium.
I will do this by first finding out what foods contain magnesium. As long as it isn’t broccoli or brussel sprouts, I will add these foods to my diet.
3. Mental.
I resolve to learn one new thing every day. I love learning new things, so this one shouldn’t be too tough to handle.
I will do this by listening to webinars, reading e-books and reading articles.
4. Career.
I resolve to do one thing career-related every day. My ultimate goal is get a job, even if it’s a part-time one. Somewhere I read that if you daily do something towards your goals, you have a much better chance of achieving them.
I will do this by making connections and looking at job boards.
5. Spiritual.
Become more involved at my church. It’s all well and good to spend time in prayer and at church services, but it’s also important to help others.
I will do this by volunteering to visit shut-ins.
So dear readers, what about you? What are your resolutions for the New Year?
Oh, and I almost forget – wishing all of you a very happy, healthy and successful New Year!

I try not to make resolutions, but I do set targets. I’m (un)lucky in that NYE is also my birthday, so I do a throughly introspective retrospection (if you’ll allow!) and decide what I can realistically achieve in the next year.
I have three targets. No, I won’t share.

I’ve seen what you are about to get dumped on New England on the weather forecast. Good luck and I hope the electricity stays on. If not, you can borrow my hot water bottle 😀 xox

Hi dear friend Ralph,
We were lucky that the electricity stayed on. As for the hot water bottle, since it’s only about 10 degrees F(-12 Celsius), I would need a water bottle the size of the Grand Canyon to stay warm!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Hi,
Go right ahead my friend. Perhaps we should start a little check in to hold ourselves accountable.
So far, I’ve managed to put little sticky notes on the pretzel M & M’s, as well as on the potato chips. The notes say, “EVIL food – do not eat.” Oh yes, that made me feel better, but it didn’t stop me from eating the food – lol.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

I think bananas have magnesium & their sweet! You better fact check that though – the Mg. part I mean 🙂 Also, a creative and effective sticky note idea.
Thanks for posting a well rounded list of goals. I’m going to write down the 5 main headings and adapt them myself.
Best regards – Bruce

Hi Bruce,
That’s good news about bananas. Anything is better than brussel sprouts. I also love bananas; I like to spread peanut butter on them for an awesome energy snack before working out. I’m off to check out their magnesium content now. 🙂
As for the sticky notes, they sound good, but that hasn’t stopped me from eating the pretzel M & Ms. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
I’m glad you liked the goals. Keep me posted on your progress!
Have an awesome weekend.

Well Bruce,
Potassium – magnesium, they’re both minerals right? and they both end in “um,” so they must be related.

I gave up making resolutions two years ago and started choosing a word that represented something I wanted to work on. Two years ago it was “acceptance” since it kept coming up in my writing. Last year it was “fearless,” which turned about to be the perfect word for everything I went through with cancer. This year’s word is “joy” since I have so much to celebrate. I’m going to look for something joyful every day this year.

Hi,
I love your approach. Last year, my word was “compassion.” It will be the same this year, since I still have lots to work on with that.
My your 2014 be filled with lots of joy!

A word, a resolution, a symbol, and all of the above. Resolution itself is a word. Like a reminder note words trigger meanings, memories, experiences, and remembered quests we once purposed. Thanks for reminding us Nancy!
