What’s in a name?

what is in a name
For marketing and branding, a good name is key. The name of a product, service or company should reflect the essence of it.

As a marketing person, I should be quite creative right? This is true most of the time, but I’m stuck on thinking of a catchy name for my new fitness and health blog.

Two years ago, when I decided to start blogging, it was to increase my online presence and showcase my skills as a technology and marketing expert. I was stuck on a name for my blog then, but decided to forge ahead anyway. I decided to use my own name so at least my online presence would be deepened.

My ideas come to me when my mind is at rest, usually during one of my yoga or meditation sessions.

Names of our beloved ‘pet’ chipmunks are easy for me; I base the names on their personalities. Last year, our chipmunks were named:

Nancy Ellen – Named after yours truly. This little guy was most definitely a morning chipmunk. She was waiting on the steps for her food every morning at 5 am.

Girlfriend – This little creature loved my husband, probably because he fed her lots of ‘good’ food. I would spread her food out over the steps so she would have to work for it and I don’t think she liked that.

Baby – One of Girlfriend’s offspring, who stayed close by when he was kicked out the nest by Mom.

So, why is is so easy for me to name chipmunks and so hard for me to name my new blog? Without getting too deep into psychology, it’s probably because I have nothing to lose by naming chipmunks, plus it’s only my husband and I who know their names. With a blog, it’s public and I want to make a good and lasting impression.

I already have several draft posts written for my health and fitness blog, I’m just waiting for inspiration on a name. I would welcome any and all suggestions.
