As a fitness obsessed person devotee, I am always looking for ways to add more activity into my daily life. Snow shoveling is one way to do so.
Why I love shoveling snow and why I can appreciate its zen qualities:
1. I love being outside in the cold and being active. It reminds me of skiing, since my heart is pounding and I’m enjoying the outdoors.
2. You work hard, and you can see the immediate results of your efforts. There is something so satisfying to look out and see a freshly cleared driveway.
3. My mind goes into a meditative state. As a matter of fact, this blog post was mentally composed while I was shoveling.
The only thing I don’t like about shoveling snow is the snow boulders at the end of the driveway, left by the stupid street plows. I must admit that sometimes those snow boulders go right back into the street where they came from, artfully pushed to the side so they won’t be re-plowed into my driveway.

We’re supposed to get snow Friday! Please come shovel our parking lot and massive sidewalks . . . around a corner of almost a city block so I can sit inside and drink hot chocolate!

Hey Ginny!
Sorry to hear about your impending snow storm. I should have qualified my blog post by saying, I love to shovel in SMALL quantities, maybe a few times a year.
The idea of drinking hot chocolate instead sounds very appealing!

I’m delighted to hear that you love to shovel snow Nancy! Now I can sell our snow thrower and use the money to buy more computer toys! π

Hey Mr. Ken,
I should have qualified my blog post by saying that I love to shovel snow a FEW times a season.
I don’t think you really want to sell the snow thrower. I’d have to do a lot more shoveling and I’d get very tired. You should know by now that a tired wife is a cranky wife……

Hi Susan,
Yes, that’s what I keep telling myself as I am shoveling snow. It seems that no amount of cross training prepares one for shoveling snow. π

I’ve always loved snow shoveling. Even for neighbors when an incentive was involved ($20). Oh, how easy money could be made back in high school.

Hi Nick,
I think I would love snow shoveling even more if I got paid for it. Mmm, I wonder what the neighbors would think if I offered to do their driveways. Except a lot of them leave for work pretty early in the morning. I’d be out there practically in the middle of the night shoveling. Now that doesn’t sound like too much fun
