And the technical terms list continues. More memory tricks to help you remember the definitions of technical terms.
1. PHISHING:
Using email to trick someone into giving out their personal information.
Think of fishing for information.
2. PING:
Used as a verb, meaning to contact via email or Instant Message. PING derives from ‘packet internet grouper.’
Think of the sound your email program makes when you have a new email. This is easier for me to remember than the acronym meaning.
3. THUMB (or FLASH) DRIVE:
A small memory storage device that plugs into a computer. This has replaces floppy disks and CD-Roms. The true geeks wear these on their belts.
Think of your thumb, which is the shape of this drive.
4. VULCAN NERVE PINCH:
Keyboard commands that are almost impossible to do since the fingers on one hand can’t reach all the keys. For example, the ctl-alt-del command on a PC.
Think of the Star Wars hand signal. Okay, so I’ve never heard of this, but I thought it was funny.
5. WEB 3.0:
What is after Web 2.0. Web 2.0 was about user generated content. Web 3.0 isn’t specific software, but it includes things like cloud computing, and ubiquitous computing, e.g. Apple iPhone and iPad.
Think of the iPhone or the iPad – enough said.
