How many times do we miss opportunities because of preconceived notions?
If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I love exercise. A recent experience made me think twice about my assumptions. I learned some valuable lessons. I just love it when exercise teaches me about life.
Because of my ongoing hip problems, I am looking for exercise that is tough, but not that intense. I was thinking that extreme cardio is out.
A dear friend sent me an extra copy of Beachbody’s Insanity: The Asylum Volume 2 workouts. As you can well imagine from the name, these are some tough workouts! I was afraid to try them. Mostly becasue I thought I would get depressed and discouraged since I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the moves. As an advanced and fit exerciser, this was upsetting to me.
Well, one day I was feeling extra energetic and decided to try one of the workouts. All I can say is that I’m hooked! I hadn’t realized how much I missed that endorphin high. I love the instructor Shaun T. and I love intense cardio. So what if I couldn’t keep up with the cast? My heart rate was way up there and I got a great workout.
Lessons learned from this:
1. Sometimes you just have to go for it. You never know where an action will lead you.
2. Lose the preconceived notions and go in with an open mind.
3. Have fun!
What about you? What can you do to just try it and see?
P.S. These lessons don’t mean that I will ever attempt rock climbing, the activity shown in the picture. I am deathly afraid of heights, so this is not something that would be good for me.
